After the pandemic, the energy crisis presented Germany with the next big challenge. Inflation has risen to its highest level since the 1950s. How long will inflation last? Has the state taken the right measures to deal with the increased energy prices? Is there a threat of de-industrialization in Germany as a result of the increased energy prices? Do we have to reconsider our foreign trade relations and supply chains in view of the changed geopolitical situation? These issues are of great importance for the country's prosperity and future economic development.

Monika Schnitzer ist Professorin für Volkswirtschaftslehre an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in München. Ihre Forschungsgebiete sind Innovation, Wettbewerbspolitik und multinationale Unternehmen. Sie war Vorsitzende des Vereins für Socialpolitik, der Vereinigung deutschsprachiger Ökonomen, Gastprofessorin an der Boston University, am MIT, an der Stanford University, Yale University, University of California, Berkeley und an der Harvard University.
Professorin Monika Schnitzer berät seit 20 Jahren die Bundesregierung, unter anderem als Mitglied des wissenschaftlichen Beirats des Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Energie und als stellvertretende Vorsitzende der Expertenkommission Forschung und Innovation. Seit April 2020 ist sie Mitglied des Sachverständigenrats für die Begutachtung der gesamtwirtschaftlichen Entwicklung, eine der fünf „Wirtschaftsweisen“.
