Relaxed “Stranden”

Gliding across still water on a hot summer’s day feels euphoric — almost addictive. For this very reason, our exclusive Bachmair Weissach beach offers not only a sunbathing lawn with a dream panorama, but also all the necessary equipment for stand-up paddling. In no time at all, the inflatable board is carried down to the wooden jetty, gently slid into the water, stepped onto, softly pushed away from shore — and the search for rhythm begins. It quickly becomes clear why moving forward is surprisingly easy: not every stroke to the left or right results in a dramatic change of direction. Three or four paddle strokes on each side are enough to maintain a reasonably straight course. A moment of realization that is often accompanied by a blissful smile spreading across the faces of first-time paddlers who, after beginning with shaky knees, soon find themselves gliding calmly across the water — paddle in hand, gaze drifting into the distance. All with the reassuring knowledge that SUP boards, being longer and wider than surfboards, offer far greater stability.

At a depth of 70 metres, Tegernsee is one of Bavaria’s cooler lakes — but who cares! Anyone inspired to go stand-up paddling in spring or autumn simply packs a stylish neoprene swimsuit or an old diving suit and sets off to take in the season’s scenery: the first fresh greens of spring or the golden foliage lining the shore. At any time of year, there is only silence, gentle rippling water, birdsong, and crisp fresh air. The paddle glides meditatively through the lake, and the mind becomes wonderfully clear.

Sounds boring? Quite the opposite. In fact, stand-up paddling is one of the most versatile sports there is. According to Christian Hahn, president of the “German Stand Up Paddle Association” (GSUPA), founded in 2014, SUP is also the fastest-growing water sport in the world. Once the basics are mastered, enthusiasts can cruise along rivers and canals in major cities such as London, New York City, or Amsterdam, or race athletically on dedicated race boards. At sea, coastlines and hidden bays can be explored; in pools, the board becomes a platform for gymnastics exercises or even yoga on the water.

Another reason why the Spa & Resort Bachmair Weissach chose SUP as part of its beach offering lies in its universal appeal. This is sporting equipment that does not suit just one type of person — it suits everyone. Each guest can use the boards in their own individual way, adding a thrilling sense of adventure to a day spent by the water, while simultaneously providing an excellent full-body workout. Because of the upright position, the entire body is engaged, improving balance and coordination. Interestingly, the fitness benefits of this fun sport can rival a workout at the gym — something that has now even been medically proven.

The paddling motion on a constantly moving board activates deeper muscle groups while placing minimal strain on the joints and carrying a comparatively low risk of injury (excluding white-water SUP and wave surfing, of course). All excellent reasons to accept our invitation and try the Bachmair Weissach boards for yourself. Yet ultimately, what we truly want to offer is a feeling of freedom — because it makes people happy, and because it reflects our philosophy so perfectly.
