Thomas Maximilian Lang reveals his golf secrets

MOMENTE MAGAZINE:
How did you get into golf?

THOMAS LANG:
When I was 13, my sports teacher at the American school in Tunis put a golf club in my hand during PE class and taught me the first basics of the sport. Since then, golf has never let me go.

What fascinates you about golf?

THOMAS LANG:
There are several aspects that appeal to me about golf. Of course, I enjoy spending time in nature; especially here at Lake Tegernsee, the golf courses offer a unique natural setting, in some places with breathtaking views of the lake.

Above all, however, it is the mental aspect that fascinates me. A round of golf takes around four hours. During this time, it is important to find the right balance between concentration and relaxation. Over time, I have learned to take time for preparation and to focus on the moment. My tip: make sure your breathing is calm, develop a routine and, above all, take your time.

Finding the right moment to bring body and mind into harmony, and discovering relaxation within that, is something that personally appeals to me very much.

Where do you most like to play?

THOMAS LANG:
The Tegernsee region naturally offers a true golfing paradise. With three challenging 18-hole golf courses, a 6-hole short course for beginners and a spacious driving range, the conditions around Lake Tegernsee are unique.

Personally, however, I am drawn to playing new courses; extraordinary courses in particular fascinate me. The most unusual course I have personally played is Alice Springs – a small green oasis in the middle of the Australian desert.

Your personal tips?

THOMAS LANG:
I am by no means a professional and do not want to give technical advice. Personally, the following two tips have helped me a great deal in improving my game:

  1. Always stay positive. The beauty of golf is that every hole offers a new chance to make everything up again. It does not always have to be the longest or most spectacular shot; consistency and the right strategy lead to a better handicap.
  2. Approach it in a relaxed way. As already mentioned, there is no point in tensing up or putting yourself under pressure. The basis for a successful game of golf is physical and mental relaxation.

What should never be missing when playing golf?

THOMAS LANG:
The 19th hole. After a successful round, a visit to the clubhouse is a must. At Lake Tegernsee, I naturally recommend the Bachmair Weissach Clubhaus.
