About the speaker
Professor Magdalena Götz heads the Department of Physiological Genomics at LMU and is Director of the Institute for Stem Cell Research at the Helmholtz Centre in Munich. Together with her teams, she researches, among other things, neural stem cells, the cellular and molecular biology of glial cells, and their response to injury.
From brain development to brain repair – Advances in brain research
Lecture on 15 November 2019
In her lecture, Prof. Götz will discuss how the brain develops and how nerve and glial cells are formed. She will then explain how brain injuries can heal completely in many vertebrates, and what approaches exist to achieve this in mammals, particularly in humans. Prof. Götz has developed her own approach to this end. Her aim is to reprogramme scar-forming glial cells into nerve cells. The results of this research have groundbreaking implications for cell reprogramming and, consequently, for the repair of brain injuries.
